Your first record
Remember a repair, without relying on your memory.
The work is done. Leave yourself the details so you won't have to piece it all together next time. A lesson for Domicusto Homeowner; the same record serves every product.
Pick one repair you've had done. We'll save what happened, then find it again.
First: sign in and check you're on the right property. Its name is at the top of the screen. This example uses AI to help with the typing. If AI isn't available, or you'd rather do it yourself, here's the other way.
The box on Overview, on a phone, on a demo property. Made-up records, real app.
Start with what happened.
- Open the box on Overview, or press + Add, then Tell it what happened. Either way, you get a box to describe what happened.
- Write a sentence. For example: The kitchen faucet was replaced today. Use your own repair. Include the date, who did it and what it cost if you know. Leave out anything you're unsure of; a blank is better than a guess.
- Choose Work it out. Your note, with the relevant details of the property, goes to the AI service to help fill in the rest. Give it a moment. No record has been saved yet.
- Check what it found. The review is titled Check what it found and opens with a short summary of what it read. Review the proposed records before saving them: correct anything wrong and untick anything you don't want to keep. AI can make mistakes; you know what actually happened.
- Save, then find it again. Choose Save. It counts the records you've left ticked, and Domicusto may suggest more than one thing to save, for example a job and an expense. Cancel leaves with nothing saved. Then open the saved job under Work, or the expense under Money, and check it looks right.
Want to enter it yourself?
A repair can be entered by hand, whatever your account's AI settings are.
- Press + Add. It's at the top of the screen.
- Choose what it is. A job for work to be done, or work that was. An expense for something you paid for. A document for a paper you want kept. Something wrong for a defect or a condition worth noting.
- Fill in what you know and save. Give the repair a name, and if it is finished, set its status to match. Add the other details you know; the form says which can wait. Save it, then open it again to check or to add more.
Something didn't work?
If AI isn't available or its suggestions don't describe your repair, cancel and use + Add, then A job. You can still keep the details. If you see a save error, check whether the entry is there before adding it again.
Now find it again
Worth doing once, on purpose, so you know where things land and can check what was saved.
- A job appears under Work, with its status and its estimate.
- An expense appears under Money, on the Expenses screen.
- A document appears under Records, on Files, alongside the record it was filed against.
- Dated records show up in History, in order.
The search box at the top searches the property you're on.
Other things AI can read for you
The same pattern holds for other things you have in hand: give it something, check what comes back, and save what is right. Nothing becomes part of the record until you press Save, and each of these can be typed in by hand instead. Every button that sends something to AI carries a small AI mark beside its words.
A receipt
- Give it: press + Add, then Take a photo (Choose files on a computer), and choose Read it.
- What comes back: one expense, with the vendor, the date, the amount and a category. Not a line for each item on it.
- Where you check it: Check what it found. Correct it, untick what you don't want, then Save.
- By hand: type the amount, the date and the vendor in the same screen and choose File it and next.
A photo of a room
- Give it: on Property, Contents, choose Walk the house, take a photo of the room you're in, then Read the photo.
- What comes back: a list of what is in it, put into the box you were going to type in. It does not guess a price, a make or a model.
- Where you check it: in that box. Correct the list and add what you know; it is saved when you go on to the next room.
- By hand: type the list into the same box.
An equipment label
- Give it: on Property, Systems, open the furnace, the water heater or whatever it is, add a photo of its label under Photos, then Read the nameplate.
- What comes back: the make, model and serial, put into that equipment's empty fields.
- Where you check it: in the same window, against the plate, before you save.
- By hand: type them into the same fields.
A manual
- Give it: add the manual you have under Files, open it, and choose Read it.
- What comes back: an upkeep task for each care instruction, with the interval or condition the manual states and the page it came from.
- Where you check it: Check what it found, where you can keep them all, a simpler set, or the ones you choose. Saved, they are on Upkeep, Maintenance schedule.
- By hand: add a task on the maintenance schedule.
Ask
Ask, at the top of the screen, answers questions about the property from its record and shows the entries it used. It knows only what has been kept there.
Less often
- A lease: under Files, open it and choose Read it. The tenant, the start and end dates, the rent, the deposit and the notice period come back as the document's facts to check.
- A forwarded email: press + Add, then Tell it what happened; on that screen, Create a forwarding address gives the property its own email address to forward to. Nothing is read until you press Read it.
- Contractors' bids: on Work, Bids, the Match to work button pairs them with jobs without AI first; Read the ones it could not place asks AI about the rest, and you confirm each pairing.
- An assistant you connect: Settings, AI, Connect an assistant. What it wants to add waits in Domicusto for you to check and save.
Reading with AI is included; Settings, AI shows how many reads you have used this month, and the limit when there is one.
That's one less thing to remember.
You have a place to look next time someone asks about that repair. Add the next thing when it comes along.
